Introducing new green and amber LED lights for our snowplows! They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Well, after noticing other states implementing green lights into their snowplow fleets, we decided to follow suit in an effort to improve the safety of both our operators and the traveling public. These new lights are six times brighter than the old ones, making them distinguishable and much easier to see. While you will likely see our new “green lit” plows if you travel through the

New SR 167 tolling rules are coming soon. Carpoolers with 2 or more people will need a Good To Go! Flex Pass to use the toll lanes for free and motorcyclists will need a motorcycle pass to ride for free—that's new. All single occupant drivers with a Good To Go! account and pass will save $2 per toll—same as always. | WSDOT

Snow is falling pretty hard on US 2 Stevens Pass with some big snowflakes coming down. Here's one of our plows working westbound (look closely and you can see the little green laser light it uses to help guide its way). Traction tires are currently advised. You can check our passes page for conditions. Please be cautious, follow traction requirements, take it slow, give plows plenty of room and be prepared for any possible delays or closures. https://www.wsdot.com/traffic/passes/ | WSDOT

It was a busy morning for our crews on US 97 Blewett Pass, which closed for about four hours due to heavy snow, multiple spin outs and poor visibility. Once the disabled vehicles were cleared, our crews were able to get the highway plowed and back open. It will continue to be a busy holiday for all of our road workers, especially those who handle our passes, so we offer a huge THANKS for their hard work and ask that everyone help them out by giving them as much room as possible and slowing down

This is a story we wish we didn’t have to tell. Last fall, Paul Weber's life changed forever when he was hit while working on the side of the road just north of Spokane. First responders saved Paul's life, but his injuries were so severe that both of his legs had to be amputated. Paul is now learning to walk again at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Medical Center in Spokane. His physical therapist says Paul is super strong, hardworking, and motivated - all the same traits that made him a dedicated U.S

UPDATE 3:58 p.m. Thursday: US 2 is now fully open across Stevens Pass! Crews spent the day clearing the final downed power lines and addressing potentially hazardous trees, followed by plowing and treating the highway. While drivers may still see utility crews in the area, the highway is fully open in time for the weekend. The highway closed on Sunday after heavy snowfall brought down power lines and trees between Gold Bar and the Stevens Pass summit, creating hazardous travel conditions. We kno

FINAL 4:25 p.m.: And that's why we call it an estimate. Westbound I-90 is now open, chains required on all vehicles except AWD/4WD. Please take it slow, give each other space, give plows room to work and be prepared for any additional delays or closures. UPDATE 4:12 p.m.: Collisions on Snoqualmie Pass have been cleared and now our crews are working on getting the highway plowed. Estimated time to reopen is now 6 p.m. Snow is falling hard in our mountain passes and it's expected to continue throu

Tomorrow we'll be holding our WSDOT Worker Memorial event, a day we gather to remember our workers who have been killed on the job. Please take a moment to listen to this message from Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar, and help us honor road workers who have died or been injured by always slowing down, focusing and giving plenty of space around work zones. Thank you. | WSDOT

Crews are making quick work demolishing a small portion of Seattle's SR 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct near the stadiums. Until yesterday, this section of roadway carried northbound SR 99 from the construction detour up onto the viaduct. Removing this section of the northbound ramp makes way for construction of the new intersection at South Dearborn Street, at the new tunnel's south portal. Most of the viaduct will be taken down after the opening of the new tunnel in February. Check our construction and

Earlier this month we held a small, safe ceremony celebrating the renaming of SR 902 to the Gold Star Memorial Highway. The highway honors our fallen military heroes and their families. SR 902 connects to the Veteran’s Cemetery in Medical Lake and is often the last miles driven by our fallen heroes as they head to their final resting place. Gold Star was chosen to honor the immediate family members of a fallen service member who died while serving in a time of conflict. | WSDOT

One of the busiest areas for our snowplow drivers this week was around I-90 in the Spokane area. Here's a close-up view of our crews working to clear snow and ice. It's going to be a long winter so please continue to keep road crews safe. Slow down, be patient, give them room and let them help you get where you're going safely! | WSDOT

A couple of scary slides are fully blocking SR 20 and SR 971, and because the conditions remain unstable and unsafe for our crews to begin clearing, it's likely they will remain closed for several more days. A snow slide that's about 30-40 feet high and 150 feet long has SR 20 blocked east of Newhalem. Those stuck behind the slide are safe and have food and lodging available. SR 971 is blocked on the south shore of Lake Chelan by a rock slide estimated to be about 30 feet deep containing 5,000 c

We're seeing a lot of wildlife activity on the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass corridor lately. Here's a couple looks. The first is of four elk just after they crossed the new wildlife overcrossing from north to south Monday afternoon. A couple of them look like they had to work off a little extra energy. The second is a thermal video of a deer wading across Keechelus Lake and being tagged along with by a nearby beaver. | WSDOT

Flying out or picking someone up from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) this weekend or next? Heads up! From 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, and the same timeframe the following weekend, the off-ramp from northbound I-5 to SR 518 (the highway to the airport, SeaTac, Tukwila and Burien) will be closed. We’ll also close a single left lane on southbound I-405 between SR 181/Interurban Ave South/West Valley Highway and I-5 (mileposts 1-0). If you’re coming from S

Building a highway underneath Seattle With a time-lapse camera mounted 54-feet high, you almost get a bird’s-eye view of work inside Seattle’s SR 99 tunnel. As the tunneling machine Bertha builds the tunnel, road crews are right behind – building the foundations, walls and the top deck of the double-deck highway drivers will travel on when the tunnel opens. Take a look. | WSDOT

Our experienced emergency management staff advise crews on what’s actively happening across the region, coordinate with the national weather service, keep tabs on roadway conditions and shift resources.
