While waiting for the helicopter to start, hold SHIFT. Once the helicopter is spun up, hold SPACE to ascend until you're at you desired altitude. From here, press the key W to fly forward and S to fly backwards. Hold SPACE to increase your altitude and SHIFT to decrease your altitude.
