As of Saturday morning, Hurricane Erin had strengthened into a Category 5 storm with maximum sustained winds of up to 160 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

Erin is expected to become a hurricane Friday, Aug. 15 and a major hurricane by Sunday morning. What Florida can expect from the storm.

For now, most reliable computer models that meteorologists use show Erin curving away from the United States, spinning off the East Coast later in August.
