STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — After proposed changes to the NYC Ferry system were announced earlier this month, re-establishing a ferry connection between Staten Island and Brooklyn, details about the timing of the boats were discussed at a virtual information session hosted by the New York City Economic Development Corporation Monday night.

West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes across New York City, according to the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. No human cases of the illness have been reported, but it has been found in all boroughs except for Manhattan.

Murders on Staten Island have surged 129% so far this year over last year, to 16 from 7. Major crimes are up in every category and 17% overall, according to NYPD data through Sept. 10.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested Monday afternoon in connection to a shooting near the Stonewall National Monument on June 29, according to the NYPD. A Daily News report claims the teenager was arrested on Staten Island. The NYPD said the boy was taken in and charged within the confines of the 6th Precinct at around 4 p.m. Monday.
