Former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy may have announced her departure from her longtime position, but the veteran producer still wants to continue making films while finding innovative ways to integrate AI.
In 2023, 15 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull polarized audiences, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was released to give Harrison Ford’s popular character a conclusive ending.
To be fair, though, while Solo is honestly a pretty great movie and a slam dunk of an idea on paper, Kennedy does nail this. Some characters are too iconic, too tied to a singular actor, to pivot from. And Han Solo, as well as Indiana Jones, is probably one of those.
Kennedy is handing over the presidential reins to Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni and general manager Lynwen Brennan. The next upcoming Star Wars film on the docket is The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is set to hit theaters on May 22. Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for a 2027 release.
Kathleen Kennedy will receive the MPSE Filmmaker Award, while supervising sound editor Mark Mangini will be honored with the Career Achievement Award.
