The Republican-led Senate on Friday voted to end debate on its six-month Continuing Resolution, preparing the chamber to vote on passing the legislation later in the day. A total of 10 Senate Democrats and Independents helped advance the resolution in a 62-38 vote, which needed a three-fifths majority to advance.

The continuing resolution to fund the government through September next goes to the Senate, where it will need bipartisan support to avoid a shutdown and an interruption of government funding and services.

The Senate passed a House-approved government funding bill that averts a government shutdown that was set to be triggered at the end of the day Friday.
