WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he will announce a new head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics within three or four days. He fired BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer after accusing her of faking jobs numbers, without providing any evidence of data manipulation.

Kevin Hassett said the president wants his own people at the agency to provide “more transparent and reliable” jobs data.

Kevin Hassett, the director of the White House National Economic Council, insisted Sunday that the administration was “absolutely not” shooting the messenger on the heels of a poor jobs report.
