San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle pushed back against a rumor about his current contract demands. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Wednesday that Kittle "wants to become the NFL’s highest-paid tight end." She added that he and the Niners "remain apart" in negotiations.

One site suggests the 49ers send Kittle and a fifth-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a third-rounder (No. 86) and a fifth-rounder (No. 158). The Niners lose in that projected swap ... badly.

The 49ers were unwilling to do that for Davante Adams (and seemingly many potential free acquisitions) this offseason and are now betting on their ability to make improvements through the draft and player development.
