The U.N. mission in Afghanistan says a Taliban fighter opened fire at the U.N. compound in Kabul, slightly injuring a security guard, and was later found dead.

Gunshots fired by a member of the Taliban's security forces at the United Nations' largest compound killed one person and injured another in Kabul, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement on Monday.

A suicide attack in December killed senior Taliban minister Khalil Haqqani at the interior ministry office along with five other people. It was the most high-profile assassination involving the group’s leadership since they took control of Kabul three years ago.
