A 10-month-old child in Assam has been diagnosed with human metapneumovirus (HMPV), the first case this season. The child is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, and is stable.

Health Minister JP Nadda said that the virus in India is not a cause of worry as it is not new and there were multiple cases detected in the past as well. Nadda also urged people to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the infection.

HMPV cases in India: Days after HMPV infection cases were detected in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, etc., another case of the virus has been detected in Assam. A 10-month-old child tested positive of HMPV after he was admitted to the hospital with cough and cold symptoms, reported PTI, citing officials on Saturday.

Several cases of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) have been confirmed in India, affecting both infants and the elderly. In Bengaluru, infants aged 3 months and 8 months were detected with the virus, while the latest case involves an 80-year-old man in Ahmedabad.

Assam has reported its first case of Human Metapneumovirus detected in a 10-month-old infant. The infant has been admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and the doctors said his health condition is stable.
