The Dallas Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach. With Cooper Rush and Trey Lance set to be free agents, the Cowboys could be looking for a reliable backup in free agency.

Brian Schottenheimer will call the Cowboys' offensive plays this season, a request of Jerry Jones before the team hired the longtime NFL assistant coach.

Schottenheimer and the Cowboys have named Dave Borgonzi, Aaron Whitecotton and Andre Curtis to the staff, the team announced Wednesday. All three are defensive hires. And all three new additions were greatly influenced by new Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus . Schottenheimer, though, had final say on the hires as head coach.

Schottenheimer—a long-time NFL offensive coordinator—last called plays during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. The 51-year-old has been the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, and the University of Georgia over his nearly 30-year coaching career.
