A Cornell graduate student who has been a prominent voice at pro-Palestinian protests is being told to surrender to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a new court filing made shortly after he asked a judge to preemptively order the government not to deport him.

Momodou Taal, a Gambian-British national who was briefly suspended from Cornell over his activism, had preemptively sued to block any effort to deport him, saying that the administration was penalizing protected speech in its mass crackdown on pro-Palestinian protesters.

U.S. immigration officials on Friday sent an email to the legal team of Momodou Taal, a Cornell University student who has participated in pro-Palestinian protests, asking him to turn himself in, Taal's attorneys said in a court filing.
