Apple has decided to settle a five-year-old class action lawsuit accusing the company of using Siri to eavesdrop on conversations — and millions of iPhone users could soon qualify for a portion of the payout.

Customers say conversations were captured by Siri without their consent and accused Apple of violating their privacy by sharing those recordings.

Apple claims it is "committed to protecting user data" and that "privacy is a foundational part" of its processes. In a statement released on 8 January 2025, titled "Our longstanding privacy commitment with Siri," they commented on the allegations.

Apple said Wednesday its virtual personal assistant Siri protects users data privacy on their devices and does not send user information to marketers.

Apple clarified on Wednesday that it has never sold the data collected by its Siri voice assistant or used it to create marketing profiles, just days after settling a case in which it faced such accusations.
