Since Democratic lawmakers left Texas to delay Republicans’ new map, state leaders have challenged the limits of traditional democratic norms to break the impasse.

As the battle over Texas' redistricting effort stretched into a second week, Gov. Greg Abbott said Republican lawmakers may seek to add more than the five congressional seats proposed in the new map.

If Democrats are still absent the Texas House speaker said Republicans will end the current session and Governor Greg Abbott will immediately call another.
