A strike seems imminent for Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) as administrators failed to reach a contract agreement during negotiations with its faculty union (HACCEA) Tuesday night. The union said it intends to strike, although it did not say how soon that could happen.

About 80 UPMC Altoona nurses rallied in a grassy area along Howard Avenue across from the hospital Wednesday evening to call attention to what they say is underinvestment and understaffing that violates promises made by UPMC when it took over the hospital in 2013.

The county's statement, following public comments at an Oct. 15 meeting, addressed the union's proposal for a $4-an-hour raise for correctional officers, stating it is unfeasible for the county's budget.
