A splinter hemorrhage is any bleeding that occurs under the fingernail or toenails. However, where the hemorrhage appears can give you important information about its causes and whether it is serious.
A subtle splinter hemorrhage at the level of the nerve fiber layer was also detected about 1 disc area away from the optic nerve head in the right eye (Figure1).
Clinical features include constitutional symptoms such as fever, anorexia, fatigue, and weight loss. Skin lesions include purpura and splinter hemorrhages, which occur in 50% of patients.
