The first significant storm of winter will drop heavy rain across much of San Diego County from roughly 9 p.m. to midnight Thursday and produce showers Friday, temporarily easing the threat of wildfires but doing comparatively little to lift precipitation to seasonal levels, the National Weather Service said.

While some flood survivors have been able to return home, many others are still struggling to recover, rebuild their homes, or find new places to live. Some survivors, particularly renters like Calix, have been forced to restart life elsewhere, with little hope of returning to their old communities.

Wednesday's rain will be gentle and relatively light, but on Thursday and Thursday night, heavier precipitation will spread southeastward across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to bring about 2 inches of rain to northern and southern parts of the county between Wednesday and Friday.

For San Diego County, rainfall is expected to range from 0.75 to 1.25 inch near the coast to 2 to 3 inches in the mountains through Friday.
