Animal rights advocates urge Ontario to seize belugas, fearing Marineland may euthanize them
Animal rights advocates are condemning Marineland’s threat to euthanize the 30 remaining belugas at the defunct amusement park in Niagara Falls, Ont., if the federal government doesn't provide funding or authorize the whales' export by Tuesday.
Marineland needs to take responsibility for 30 beluga whales, not the Canadian taxpayer, an animal rights organization says. In a letter to Joanne Thompson, the Canadian Minister of Fisheries, Marineland says it may have to euthanize the whales after the ministry denied export permits for the belugas.
