MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow claimed that a liberal candidate winning Wisconsin Supreme Court election was a referendum on President Trump and his senior adviser Elon Musk.

Susan Crawford, a liberal, won a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday, easily defeating her Musk-backed conservative challenger, Brad Schimel, in a race Musk said “might decide the future of America and Western civilization.”

Wisconsin voters rejected an all-out blitz by the billionaire to get a conservative on the state’s supreme court.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court loss has triggered GOP soul-searching over Musk's growing influence and the future of his Department of Government Efficiency.

Crawford won by approximately 10% of the vote share, even as groups supporting Brad Schimel—including Musk’s America PAC—spent vastly more money.

Musk spent over $25 million supporting GOP-backed Brad Schimel in the race against the Democrat's pick, Susan Crawford, and personally visited the state to support him, but analysts told Newsweek that the influx of money and influence from the White House "insulted" voters, and Crawford was elected.

In the state election, Judge Susan Crawford secured a whopping 55 percent of the vote, while the Musk-backed Judge Brad Schimel captured only 45 percent. While the position is nonpartisan, this election still determined the court’s ideological lean. Crawford was backed by Democrats, while Schimel was backed by Republicans.
