The day-to-day volatility for the S&P 500 settled down on Monday and Tuesday. But two-thirds of stocks in the U.S. large-cap benchmark index have declined this year, with 220 of the 500 stocks down at least 10% and 82 down at least 20%.

President Trump’s tariffs haven’t just rattled the stock market; they’ve also made it nearly impossible to estimate where stocks are headed.

When tariffs went into effect at the beginning of April, Dollar General stock jumped while the S&P 500 index plummeted. The stock offers relatively good value, trading at 15 times this year's earnings estimate. It also offers a high forward dividend yield of 2.71%.
