The preliminary injunction orders the government to effectively restore the decades-old U.S. Refugee Admissions Program while a lawsuit to preserve it proceeds.

A federal judge has blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order implementing an indefinite “pause” on refugee admissions to the United States, saying the directive appeared to amount to a “nullification” of federal law.

The executive order, “Realigning the United States Refugee Admissions Program,” was one of dozens Trump signed shortly after taking office in January. Under the executive order, refugee admissions have come to a halt, leaving some refugees in the middle of the process stranded and organizations that help resettle refugees without funding.
