Anthony came to the plate with the bases empty in the top of the first inning. On a 2-2 count, Mariners starter Logan Gilbert threw a 96 mph fastball to the upper outside corner of the strike zone. Anthony reached across the plate and pulled a deep fly ball that carried over the right-center-field wall.

Prized rookie Roman Anthony hit his first major league home run for the Boston Red Sox in the first inning Monday night against the Seattle Mariners.

At 21 years and 34 days old, Anthony became the youngest Red Sox player to homer since Devers, who was 20 years and 275 days old when he went deep a day after his debut in July 2017. And both long balls came in Seattle.
