Penn State men’s hockey head coach Guy Gadowsky has been named a Coach of the Year finalist. Gadowsky is 1 of 10 finalists for the Spencer Penrose Award, which is presented annually to the men’s ice hockey Division I Coach of the Year.

Penn State and UConn will meet in the regional final of the NCAA college hockey tournament to determine who will advance to the Frozen Four.

Penn State has a rich tradition in many of the 24 interscholastic sports that the NCAA offers. Even with a drastic turnaround spearheaded by coach Guy Gadowsky since the Nittany Lions made the jump to the NCAA in 2012 in men’s hockey,

The Black Bears outshot Penn State over the last two periods, 19-18, but couldn’t slip another puck past Sergeev, who finished with 26 saves. Playing for UConn last season, Sergeev recorded a 2-0 shutout against Maine, making 27 saves.

Penn State men’s hockey isn’t going to Allentown alone — the Roar Zone is traveling for the first round of the NCAA Hockey Tournament, bringing a white out crowd with it.

No. 1 overall seed Boston College survived a scare from Bentley, breaking a tie late in regulation to advance to the second round of the NCAA men’s hockey tournament. Three other Hockey East teams are moving on as well.
