An agreement between Kazatomprom and Japanese utility Kansai to supply Kazakh uranium products for Japanese nuclear power plants and a raft of nuclear-related bilaterals were signed during the visit to Japan by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

One of the world's largest oil, gas and coal importers - Japan - has cut fossil fuel electricity generation to the lowest levels in more than a decade so far in 2025, thanks in large part to an ongoing recovery in nuclear power output.

Shares of Tokyo Electric Power Co. jumped as much as 3%, following reports that the utility is aiming to restart Japan’s largest nuclear power plant in January.
