Billy Corgan is teaming up with Lyric Opera of Chicago to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary. It's a prospect Corgan didn't really see coming.

Pumpkins' lead singer Billy Corgan will be joined by Lyric's orchestra, chorus and as a group of operatically trained soloists for a "musical-dramatic experience” based on music from the band's famed album “Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness.

Billy Corgan is teaming with the Lyric Opera to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Smashing Pumpkins’ epic double LP “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” for a week of performances in late November.

Smashing Pumpkins mastermind Billy Corgan has teamed up with Lyric Opera of Chicago to turn Smashing Pumpkins' decade-defining double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness into a whole opera.

It’s been 30 years since the breakthrough album the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”. Now Chicago rocker Billy Corgan is marking the anniversary with a collaboration with the Lyric Opera.

"I am excited for both fans of my music and traditional opera fans to hear some truly inspired work," says Corgan.
